Where Was Lynne and Dick Cheney's "Outrage" 6 Weeks Ago?
They've gotten themselves into quite a tizzy since John Kerry had the audacity to speak respectfully about their openly gay daughter. They (or Mary Matalin) have even crafted a tight message to keep attention off of Kerry's successful debate performances and the fact that our president LIED about being concerned about Osama bin Laden. Check out these air-tight intra-family talking points:
Dick Cheney: "...I am not just speaking as a father here, although I am a pretty angry father."
Lynne Cheney: "I am speaking as a mom, and a pretty indignant mom."
It's strange that they weren't nearly as angry or indignant when GOP lunatic and soon-to-be Senatorial race landslide victim, Alan Keyes, piped in with the following about their daughter:
After saying homosexuality is "selfish hedonism," Keyes was asked if that made Mary Cheney "a selfish hedonist."
"Of course she is," Keyes replied. "That goes by definition."
Even beyond this instance, wouldn't any father serving as Vice President be absolutely unable to supports any actions taken to reduce one of his own children into second-class citizenship, as the GOP is doing now by trying to amend the Constitution to ban gay marriage?
Not Dick Cheney. He'll let it go.
Gotta keep the base happy!
Andrew Sullivan, a gay conservative (can I say that?) had the absolute best take on the whole "Mary-gate" fiasco...
