This is why I abhor media

Why bother stating any facts at all when you can simply resort to fear-mongering? Just casually point out the fact that millions upon millions of people would be annihilated as though you're writing a review of the locale fare at a restaurant opening (which was probably who indeed foisted this crap upon the headlines.) I could write the same "analysis" regarding a Chinese attack on the United States. Hell, why not use France? They have an army. And they actually have missles that fly and could hit Bearnuts, Alaska. In terms of probability they are equal - it's just that one wouldn't trigger the right amount of paranoia to sell something.

This idea of absolutes of good vs. evil is why there's 2 Koreas in the first place. That last clown decided this was part of an "axis of evil"? If we can overlook the logic that an axis contains only two functional points of rotation, then ignoring the history will also help us overlook who put the wheels on and custom built the drivetrain (think Pogo...)

Ever wonder why you can never seem to get an informed conversation on something besides what the talking box told everyone to like/think/buy? We're just mushrooms: feed us sh*t and keep us in the dark.

Which celebrity went from doable to non-doable in the shortest period of time?

Your mileage may vary, but I say nobody hit the wall faster than Meg Ryan.

The distance from When Harry Met Sally to In The Cut is way longer than 14 little years.

Time to share, everybody!

I just can't figure out why more women don't vote Republican...

G. Gordon Liddy, speaking about Judge Sonia Sotomayor yesterday...

"Let's hope that the key conferences aren't when [Sotomayor]'s menstruating or something, or just before she's going to menstruate. That would really be bad. Lord knows what we would get then."
Hillary Clinton, Nancy Pelosi, now Sonia Sotomayor. The right-wingers do seem to hold their sickest invective for the ladies, don't they?

Wanna know the least believable thing about the movie "Point Break"?

No, it wasn't the fact that Gary Busey played the wise veteran charged with showing Keanu Reeves the ropes.

No, it wasn't that the main premise of the film was a bunch of doped-up surfers moonlighting as bank robbers.

No, it wasn't that Keanu Reeves played both an EFF-BEE-EYE AGENT and a former college quarterback in the same movie.

The least believable aspect of Point Break was that both Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze, in their primes, fell for the rat-eyed freakazoid known as Lori Petty.

I can suspend my disbelief to an extent, but how the fuck am I supposed to believe that???

I'd like my previous remarks stricken from the record...

Remember all that glowing praise I had for the Carolina Hurricanes about a week ago?

Never mind.

Any team that allows another team to come into their arena and outscore them by a tally of 10-3 over two embarrassing games in the Eastern Conference Finals is deserving of zero praise.

They gave up when their fans believed in them the most and did so in stunning fashion.

Horrendous...

I wonder...

...how the conservative machine that is preparing to eviscerate Sonia Sotomayor, President Obama's choice for the Supreme Court, will feel about the fact that uber-conservative Jesse Helms voted in favor of her confirmation to the U.S. Circuit Court back in 1998.

Should be interesting...

Because #1 and #2 are overrated...

Everyone loves talking about the #1's and #2's in life, but the really intriguing question is often "Who is #3?"

What are the all-time greatest #3's? They can come from any area...

Football franchise: San Francisco 49ers
Baseball franchise: St. Louis Cardinals
Hockey Franchise: Toronto Maple Leafs
Basketball Franchise: Chicago Bulls
U.S. President: Franklin Delano Roosevelt
Pizza toppings: Bacon

Give me more...

Warning: This may require a cold one

Drumsalad gave me a dub of this in 10th grade. I don't know why, but for some reason this was playing in my head this morning. Hopefully it stays there and drowns out the crap I'm going to be hearing the rest of today...

Have a good weekend.

A trip down memory lane...

...for those of you who are willing to throw your support behind Newt Gingrich's efforts to lead the Republican Party out of the political wilderness.

WashingtonPost, January 22, 1997.

The House voted overwhelmingly yesterday to reprimand House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.) and order him to pay an unprecedented $300,000 penalty, the first time in the House's 208-year history it has disciplined a speaker for ethical wrongdoing.

The ethics case and its resolution leave Gingrich with little leeway for future personal controversies, House Republicans said. Exactly one month before yesterday's vote, Gingrich admitted that he brought discredit to the House and broke its rules by failing to ensure that financing for two projects would not violate federal tax law and by giving the House ethics committee false information.

"Newt has done some things that have embarrassed House Republicans and embarrassed the House," said Rep. Peter Hoekstra (R-Mich.). "If [the voters] see more of that, they will question our judgment."
FYI, the vote to rebuke the man who now thinks Nancy Pelosi is unfit to be Speaker of the House, was 395 in favor and 28 opposed.

Oh, and don't forget that this vote came about a year before Gingrich tried to impeach Bill Clinton while cheating on his own wife with one of his congressional aides.

Good guy...

What's the worst kid's name you've ever heard?

I'm sure I'll go to hell for saying this, but I saw a little girl named "Tennyson" this weekend, and a little piece of my soul died.

What else have we got?

John Boehner (R-Venus) accuses the CIA of lying...

...but since he's a.) not a Democrat, b.) not a woman, or c.) never had plastic surgery, other than a Michael Jacksonian color change, it really doesn't matter, does it?

The phony outrage of the limp-dicked elephants at Nancy Pelosi is made even more hilarious when you consider that George W. Bush and Dick Cheney have repeatedly placed the blame for their disastrous blunder in Iraq on (guess who???) the CIA...

A brilliant question...

For those Republicans who are just horrified at the possibility of Gitmo being closed.

From First Read:

By the way, we have this one question for the GOP straw-man argument on Gitmo: So is living near a prison with CONVICTED rapists or murderers safer than living next to a prison with SUSPECTED terrorists? Discuss.

We haven't talked about beer in quite a while...

With summer just about here, it's a good time to mention Bell's Oberon Ale. By far and away, it's my favorite summer ale.

What else is good for this time of year?

Note to Liz Cheney: Who gives a fuck what you think?

Your old man was the worst Vice President this nation has ever seen, and he authorized torture as a means to invent a link between Iraq and the 9/11 attacks.

Why should we give a shit about your opinions on your father's anti-American torture policies?

It's an issue I'm sure you've been waiting for me to address...

And I must admit, I've been slow to respond to such an important development.

In short, the answer is "yes", I do enjoy Seether's cover of Wham!'s "Careless Whisper". It's a song that's near and dear to my heart, since it's the song that made me a karaoke legend (in my own mind) a few years ago.

So yes, it works for me. It stays true to the original, but has its own distinct sound.

The pot takes issue with the kettle's pigmentation...

Newt Gingrich, The "idea man" behind the impeachment of Bill Clinton has this to say about Nancy Pelosi...

"I think this is the most despicable, dishonest and vicious political effort I've seen in my lifetime."

"She is a trivial politician, viciously using partisanship for the narrowist of purposes, and she dishonors the Congress by her behavior."
Apparently there are no mirrors in the glass house where Newt and his third wife, with whom he cheated on his second wife, currently reside...

At what point do the Carolina Hurricanes earn some respect?

Don't get me wrong here. They're not my team, and they'll never be my team.

That being said, this team is damn fun to watch. They play hockey the right way. They have each other's backs. Bottom line: These team has balls.

They went to New Jersey and beat Martin Brodeur in a Game 7. They went to Boston and beat the best goalie in the league in a Game 7.

In spite of their success thusfar, the Hurricanes still have to hear ESPN analyst/former Penguins agitator Matthew Barnababy say that they aren't as good as the two teams they've defeated in the playoffs.

What the hell???

It seems to me that they've more than proven themselves to be better than the Devils and Bruins, and I seriously doubt the Penguins are happy to see the toughest team left in the playoffs staring them in the face, as Barnababy also suggested.

The media in general will continue to dump on the Canes and drool all over Sidney Crosby throughout the Eastern Conference Finals, but even if the Penguins do walk away victorious, don't forget how clutch the team from Raleigh has been.

They're damn good...

Ahhhh...the weekend

This effing blew my mind the first time I heard it. I know not everyone is a fan of the genre, but I feel an obligation to share this kind of brilliance...

What actor/actress played the best junkie in a movie?

A very busy work schedule has prevented me from posting, but here's a good idea I bit from Ron and Fez.

I'll go with Benicio del Toro from "Things We Lost In The Fire". The movie was a bit of a chick flick, but he played a heroin addict in the most realistic and frightening way I've ever seen.

Who else has done a good job with a junkie role?

House Republican leadership spreads its cheeks for Rush Limbaugh...Again...

It's amazing that the dying Republican party would put a pill-popping, limp-dicked extremist on this much of a pedestal.

Yet, it makes perfect sense...
