Kudos To A GOP'er For An Idea That's Long Overdue...
Rep. Tom Davis (R-VA) deserves credit for reintroducing a bill to give the District of Columbia some level of Congressional representation of which it currently has none.
The bill balances the proposed DC congressional seat (almost certainly a Democratic stronghold) with a new 4th district in Utah (almost certainly a GOP stronghold).
Davis raises some very valid points on his website regarding DC representation:
This bill will correct the long-standing injustice that citizens of theThe next logical step should be giving DC representation in the Senate as well, but that might be a tougher sell, since that would most definitely add 2 solidly Democratic seats to the Senate (and we can't have that, can we?).
District of Columbia, who pay federal taxes and who serve and die in the Armed
Forces, have been denied full voting representation in the U.S. Congress.
