Bush Flip-Flops On Timetables...
As Dubya gears up for another primetime speech (read as: photo-op with the troops to reassert his Preznit-ness) designed to save his pitiful approval numbers, be prepared to hear him talk about how setting timetables "sends the wrong message" to our enemies.
Be reminded that he didn't always feel that way. Just take a look at some of the comments he made during the Kosovo war in 1999.
(Thanks to ThinkProgress for doing the heavy lifting...)
Contrast these statements with what you hear tonight. It'll probably sound a lot like this:“Victory means exit strategy, and it’s important for the president to explain to us what the exit strategy is.”
George W. Bush, 4/9/99
“I think it’s also important for the president to lay out a timetable as to how long they will be involved and when they will be withdrawn.”
George W. Bush, 6/5/99
“It doesn’t make any sense to have a timetable. You know, if you give a timetable, you’re — you’re conceding too much to the enemy.”
George W. Bush, 6/24/05
