How Sensible Governments Do Business...
SENSIBLE
In the face of a large budget surplus, North Carolina's Democratic Governor Mike Easley has proposed cutting the state's sales tax, increasing the state's minimum wage, increasing pay for state employees, and increasing spending for education.
NOT-QUITE-SO-SENSIBLE
In the face of enormous budget deficits and skyrocketing national debt, President George W. Bush and the Republican leaders of the House and the Senate agreed on $70 billion worth of additional tax cuts over the next 5 years that will benefit mostly wealthy Americans.
Also, in the Senate, Republicans are looking to pass a bill that will make it easier for small employers to ignore state mandates for a standard of quality healthcare, enabling them to offer sub-standard healthcare to their employees...
