He points out that the 9/11 f-stains wanted to be martyrs in the first place. Though imminently deserving of death, they should be denied it - because that is what they hope for.

I won't mourn these guys if they are put to death, but I will mourn the missed opportunity to deny them what they and their fanatical brethren want most right now. Feeding fanaticism makes little sense. Starve the beast of what it feeds on to weaken it.
