This One Surprised Me

With this having been one of the most scrutinized military procurement competitions in recent history, I was really surprised to hear that GAO sided with Boeing. I had read in recent days about some errors, but none that would have lead to such a stunning reversal. Boeing got burned the first go-round with their ridiculous deal whereby the government leased tankers for about $4 billion more that it would have cost to buy AND MAINTAIN THEM.

Now EADS flubs it.

The tanker fleet keeps getting older and the USAF cannot seem to run a straight competition. Good thing the fighter mafia was recently de-throned as Gates named the new Chief of Staff, a C-130 guy. I hope this nightmare ends soon and the aging fleet of tankers (KC-135's and KC-10's) gets retired soon. Get it together, USAF and DOD. This is just sad.
